*In 2011, Pink Pearls of Hope distributed more than 1,000 Free Breast Self-Exam kits throughout the United States to individuals, churches, hospitals, businesses, beauty salons, and organizations.
*Pink Pearls of Hope developed and produced culturally sensitive DVDs, literature, and seminars to educate women about the risk factors, symptoms, benefits of early detection, and prevention.
A project of UCSF Partners in Care, Friend to Friend arose from the need for a comfortable place where women who were undergoing cancer treatment could shop in privacy.
Now, women from all over the Bay Area and beyond look to them for comfortable mastectomy bras, flattering swimsuits, breast prostheses, stylish wigs and lingerie. Unlike a typical medical supply store, Friend to Friend is a warm, welcoming oasis where one can share their hopes and experiences.
Their nurturing staff, most of them breast cancer survivors themselves, are there to listen, answer questions and assist with fittings.
